Description

finally got around to trying soft shading. Took me long enough, eh? Not exceptionally good, but I think that if I mess with it anymore, it's just going to get worse.

Well, if you want a bit of a in depth crit, I can give you this!

Anatomy wise, his chest is a bit flat. Not entirely with regard to shading. Perhaps lightly defining some muscle in the lineart would help him look a bit more 3D. Same with his pants and such. Some slight creases and details like seams and pockets goes a long way in defining form.

Perhaps looking a bit into proportions might also help, stuff like this: [link] . I personally don't use the proportions in the link, I ones closer to American comic characters, but I'm mucked about with them a bit (Most American comics don't have dog-headed leads :P)

As for shading, I just wanna comment on the technique. It seems you are using low opacity flat black? It's generally not the best idea, as the black goes all muddy. In fact, in comic art, pure black and white are avoided entirely. Try using darker versions of the base colour, as well as lighter versions for highlights!
